Especially patients who arrive with alternate levels of consciousness
A recent article in the New York Times emphasized the value that medical ID bracelets can provide wearers in the current crisis environment where many hospitals are being overrun with cases of the new corona virus.
Medical ID bracelets and/or pendants not only provide an extra layer of protection for its wearer, but also helps emergency medical professionals ensure proper care, should the wearer end up in the hospital. Any information that can speed up treatment is beneficial to patients, doctors and nurses.
In the New York Times article Dr. Robert Femia, the chair of emergency medicine at N.Y.U. Langone Health, was quoted as saying that he and his colleagues rely on medical bracelets every day in the emergency room. He went on to say, “Especially for patients who come in with alternate levels of consciousness or coma, the ID bracelets help quite a bit,” Dr. Femia said. “Plus it provides patients with a level of comfort too, that they know that in case they’ve got a situation where they can’t communicate with us well.”
People with pre-existing medical conditions can take an additional step to ease their anxiety and help ensure their safety: wearing a medical ID bracelet or pendant to speak for you when you can't speak for yourself.
